Fasting, often surrounded by misconceptions and concerns, has been a subject of extensive exploration due to its potential impact on our body and overall well-being.
From my personal experience, embarking on the intermittent fasting journey has been marked by numerous positive changes, ranging from increased energy levels to unexpected physiological responses.
Struggling with digestive problems after my Gallbladder was removed, bloatiness and luck of energy, I decided to try intermittent fasting of 16 hours fast and 8 hours eating window 5 days a week. With this changes I wanted to support the liver function, improve the lipase levels ( at that time they were higher then normal) and help with digestion.
As I delved deeper into intermittent fasting, I found significant improvement in my energy levels throughout the day and mental clarity during fasting periods. My lipase levels decreased significantly and my digestive issues improved. This approach also contribute to my sense of discipline in eating habits, and a positive shift in my relationship with food.
Even my goal during Intermittent fasting was not to loose weigh the most surprising aspect of it was the absence of hunger. Unlike traditional eating patterns triggering the release of ghrelin, the hunger hormone, ketosis suppresses such signals. This lack of appetite highlights the disconnection between what the body needs and what it typically craves, challenging preconceived notions about the necessity of constant food consumption. The rhythm of alternating between eating and fasting not only aided in shedding a few pounds but also seemed to recalibrate my metabolism. I am a person who has a sweet tooth and wants to eat snacks. The periodic fasting intervals allowed me to appreciate the true meaning of hunger and savour each meal more mindfully avoiding or not having snacks.
Beyond the physical changes, there was a surprising sense of empowerment that came with adhering to this eating pattern. It was a journey of self-discovery, learning to distinguish between actual hunger and emotional cravings. Additionally, I noticed improvements in my digestion, lipase levels and a general feeling of lightness, both physically and mentally.
While my intermittent fasting journey is ongoing, I feel more in tune with my body and its needs. It's not just a dietary choice; it's become a lifestyle that aligns with my personal wellness goals. The flexibility it offers makes it sustainable for me, and I'm excited to see how this journey continues to unfold.
